This week on the blog, I am sharing a video to commemorate our milestone: Letters Against Isolation is celebrating its first birthday!
In the video, you'll hear from Cynthia, one of the seniors we write to. You'll also hear from activities directors from a few of the homes we write to, and they share with us how your letters have been enjoyed by their seniors. There are some heartwarming clips from volunteers about why they volunteer, as well as a lovely clip of our three awesome volunteer coordinators. You'll also hear from Ba, my grandma, who inspired us to start Letters Against Isolation.
Grab some popcorn and enjoy the show!
It is hard to believe that Letters Against Isolation has been running for an entire year already! I would like to share a huge congratulations and thanks to each and every one of the volunteers for sharing their time and kindness with seniors around the world. Together, we have brightened over 175,000 days through our joy filled cards! I'm incredibly proud that in 2020, which was such a difficult year, the Letters Against Isolation community was a beacon of light and hope for the seniors we serve. It has been a true pleasure to build this community of amazing volunteers, seniors, and activities directors. Look at all we've achieved together in just one year! Thank you so much to each and every one of you for writing to the seniors we serve and for helping us fight senior loneliness. You, the volunteers, are at the heart of this organization, and none of this would be possible without you!
It's a privilege to be a part of this wonderful organization. ALL our volunteers are amazing; it doesn't matter if you send one letter or one hundred letters, our community is reaching thousands of lonely seniors every week and there is no better use of our time. Thank you Shreya and Saffron for providing this opportunity and for the chance to make so many new friends around the world! Here's to a successful SECOND year of LAI!!
Ellen R., Volunteer Coordinator
Wow! Thank you for making this video! I've had so much joy and encouragement myself from writing these letters and notes but I always wonder and hope that these little notes bring a smile to someone's face, maybe a laugh, something to help them feel hopeful. Your video has helped me to know that I have made a difference. Shreya and Saffron, you two girls are so inspiring to me! I'm so glad you and the coordinators are working as a team. A big Smooch to you all! Your friend, Ellen
What a delightful video! It makes me so proud of y'all and all the volunteers and makes me so happy that I can be a part of it! I found about LAI on the news on MSNBC and immediately knew I wanted to participate. I have been writing 7 letters each week for 10 weeks going on my 11th week today, Sunday, and hope to be able to continue to cheer my friends up for as long as possible! I write 7 letters per week because I love to decorate them, learning pop-up cards, along with colorful letters. I wish I could write more but I am bedridden and I am slow. From now on I'm going to put my…
